About

About the AMWELL Lab

The AMWELL Research Lab is dedicated to advancing the knowledge and scientific understanding of risk and resilience factors such as trauma, anxiety, OCD, substance use, immigrant parent/first-generation child relationships, social relationships, community influence, and religiosity/spirituality on overall well-being in American Muslims. Our work seeks to explore the experiences of diverse populations, with particular attention to communities that have historically been underrepresented in psychological research, and continue to be significantly impacted as a result.

Our Mission

  • Advance Scientific Understanding: Advance the understanding and scientific literature knowledge base of risk and resilience factors that affect mental health and well-being in American Muslims.

  • Make Research Accessible: Distribute and make accessible our findings to better benefit the community and guide practitioners and clinicians in making evidence-based decisions for therapy and other intervention outcomes.

  • Engage with Communities: Connect with the community through talks, workshops, and events to deliver knowledge in accessible ways.

Our Vision

To contribute to a future in which mental health research and interventions are informed by inclusive evidence and responsive to the needs of diverse populations.

Why Our Research Matters

Psychological research does not always adequately represent the experiences of culturally and religiously diverse populations. AMWELL aims to contribute to addressing these gaps by examining risk factors, protective factors, and culturally/religiously specific experiences, thus building an evidence base that better reflects the communities it seeks to serve and holds standing in the scientific community.
